Volunteer Reading Tutors Needed at Driggs Howard R. Driggs is looking for Volunteers from our community to help below level students in reading. The Utah Office of Education (USOE) has produced a reading tutorial program called STAR. The purpose of STAR is to provide primary grade students reading below grade level with additional reading practice. Students participating in STAR meet with an adult volunteer who is trained to provide them with a series of targeted lessons. The lessons enhance primary reading instruction offered by classroom teachers and support the following research-based components of reading: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary. Students receive guided practice reading engaging and appropriately leveled reading material. There will be a volunteer training for this program at the State Office of Education (250 East 500 So.) on November 9th at 11:30 A.M. If you are interested please contact Mrs. McGill or Mrs. Israelsen at 385-646-4810 so you can fill out a registration form. Click HERE to learn more about this program! |
